About Us

I am Dr. Jennifer Paisley, MD and I created this resource for people like myself; those tired of chronic fatigue, weight gain, and development of metabolic disease in themselves or patients they serve. My goal is to provide a space for reliable, evidence-based nutritional information as well as education on the role of food and nutrition and their respective impacts, both short and long-term.

I grew up in a small, rural town where I lived on a diet of processed foods that were quick to prepare. Like many of my patients, this led to early development of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity. I was first told about my high cholesterol at age 9. From that time, I began to learn to cook from my grandmother, my closest-relative who still cooked primarily-homemade meals. I developed a love of cooking and baking which encouraged me to experiment with new flavors and ingredients that I otherwise never would have tried, let alone prepared myself.

Throughout college and medical school, I continued to expand my culinary horizons to the point where I often-joked that if medical school didn’t work out, culinary school wouldn’t be a terrible backup. After becoming a doctor, I broadened my knowledge of nutrition, a natural dovetail to what I had already-learned from years of cooking wholesome foods from real, unprocessed ingredients.

I often call myself a revised picky eater. I say this because I am still quite selective of what I eat. The difference between me now and nine-year-old-me is that my palette criteria has shifted from just seeking foods that I liked or tolerated to insisting that my food have actual flavor and substance that wasn’t leaning on salt, sugar, or a litany of artificial ingredients to attract me. Learning to cook and prepare foods that were flavorful as well as desirable was instrumental to overcoming the appeal of processed foods I grew up with and are still prevalent in American homes today. It is with these thoughts and experiences that I feel that anyone can learn to like real, wholesome, nutritious foods that are both pleasant to consume and nourishing for the body.

Using my training in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obesity Medicine, nutritional health coaching, and culinary science, I have worked to create a site for reliable nutrition information and fun, creative recipes with a real-world, down-to-earth implementation. My goal is to make food delicious, nutritious, and realistic for you in a safe, judgement-free environment.

Throughout this site, you will frequently come across links for products that I recommend.
